Israeli occupation forces raided another Palestinian funeral, just days after they violated the funeral of a journalist they killed.

Israeli Forces: Funeral Violation

Israeli forces killed AlJazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh on May 11. Then, on May 13, they attacked the mourners at his funeral. Like The Canary Previously reported:

Israeli forces shot and killed Shireen in cold blood. It was an attack on the freedom of the press. It was an attack on the Palestinians’ right to exist. And it was an attack on everything Shireen stood for, including fearless reporting on the actions of an apartheid state.

AlJazeera Producer Linah Alsaafin believes Israeli forces intentionally killed Abu Akleh. She tweeted:

Now Israeli forces have attacked another burial. This time it was Walid Al-Sharif’s. They shot him during their raid on Al Aqsa Mosque in April. Like Al Manar News reported, Al-Sharif died on May 14:

he fell into a coma on April 24 and had been in critical condition ever since.

Al-Sharif’s head or neck was targeted by an Israeli sponge-tip bullet, according to his family and witnesses.

At the time of his injury, Israeli occupation forces attacked the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, and Al-Sharif was one of 57 Palestinians injured in the brutal attacks on worshipers.

Then Israeli forces attacked his funeral on May 16:

Reports suggest that Israeli forces injured more than 80 Palestiniansas well as set up roadblocks and prevent access to Al Aqsa. They attacked the Red Crescent Ambulance carrying Al-Sharif, and left one of his relatives in critical condition:

Israel: acting with impunity?

Predictably, the mainstream media either failed to report the Israeli violence or downplayed it. the Jerusalem Post ran with the usual “clashes” trope:

Ha’aretz used the passive voice:

Jerusalem funeral of Palestinian killed in Al-Aqsa clashes leads to violence

And France 24 ran with title:

Dozens injured in clashes at Palestinian funeral in Jerusalem

Who hurt the “dozens”? If you read France 24you wouldn’t know it was Israeli forces.

Like The Canary‘s Maryam Jameela previously wrote of Abu Akleh’s funeral:

The Palestinians are abandoned both in life and in death. Palestinians cannot cry like everyone else. The Palestinian dead cannot be mourned without interference.

The almost identical actions of Israeli forces during Al-Sharif’s funeral show that the state continues to enforce its apartheid with impunity.
